Welcome to the Wilmington (DE) Alumnae Chapter website. Our chapter, the first chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority organized in the state of Delaware, was chartered in 1949, as Gamma Sigma Omega chapter, by ten (10) dynamic women who saw a need to bring service and constructive activism to Wilmington area communities. For nearly 67 years, we have been committed to public service, educational advancement and social advocacy.
Our national theme for the 2015 to 2017 biennium, the vision of our 25th National President, Dr. Paulette C. Walker, is “Uncompromising Commitment to Communities: Service, Leadership, and Empowerment”. We are committed to making her vision a reality in our service area by providing high-quality programming in the Sorority’s five (5) programmatic thrust areas – Economic Awareness, Educational Awareness, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.
Locally, we know that as an organization volunteers, we balance many personal and organizational priorities. To remain on the cutting edge of Delta programming, we are committed to doing the work of Delta in accordance with our SAFE principles where we are aim to be sisterly, appropriate, fulfilled and engaged in all that we do.
Our signature programs include our Jabberwock scholarship program, a collaboration between the Wilmington (DE) Alumnae chapter and Delta Outreach and Educational Center, Inc.(DOEC), a 501c3 foundation whose mission is to improve the plight of young women; Empowering our Sisters: A Journey to Wellness, our annual health summit co-sponsored by Christiana Care Health Systems (CCHS) and DOEC; and our award-winning youth initiatives – Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy (middle school girls), Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS (high school girls), EMBODI (middle and high school boys), and Young Entrepreneurs (teens male and female).
