Our Chapter

Chartered on March 6, 1949 in Wilmington, we have a track record of addressing social needs in New Castle County. The chapter has been recognized for its comprehensive, innovative and impactful programming and the recipient of several honors from the national and regional organizations of DST, the Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Award for Community Service, as well as awards from other community and local organizations. From our youth initiatives such as the Delta Academy, Delta GEMS and EMBODI mentoring programs, the Young Entrepreneur Program and the Jabberwock scholarship program to our annual community events such as Financial Fortitude, Empowering Our Sisters: Our Journey to Wellness and the RED Run 5k, we are focused on meeting the need.

Over the years, the chapter has grown and expanded from ten (10) visionary Delta women, our Charter Members, who decided to come together and use their collective voice to make a difference in the community – Elizabeth Hamilton Anderson, Myra Webster Gibbs, Grace Price Goens, Allie Miller Holley, Louise Syphax Hopkins, Edith Carter Johns, P. Rozellie Mabry O’Neal, C. Gwendolyn Redding, Marjorie Wright Scott and Harriet Green Seldon. We are now nearly 300 members strong. Our members include teachers, engineers, attorneys, public officials, administrators, as well as entrepreneurs and business professionals of every kind. Ranging in age from recent college graduates to seasoned members approaching thier centennial, chapter members take our Lifetime Committment seriously and remain dedicated to Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service!
